In an effort to increase awareness of aging water infrastructure and improve public health, the City is updating it’s water service line inventory. In order to complete our inventory, we need the assistance of businesses and homeowners to identify service line materials. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is requesting this service line inventory to be completed as part of the revised Lead and Copper Rule.

How to identify Lead Service Lines:
When you have identified your Lead Service Line and done either a scratch or magnet test, take a photo of your water meter to include with the Water Service Line Inventory Survey. Please ensure both your water meter and service line are visible in the photo.
I know my Service Line Material: Now what?
- As per the EPA’s revised Lead and Copper Rule, the City of Bancroft will update the service line inventory with the goal of notifying any potential customers of lead service connections that are identified.
- Because the service line is customer-owned, the City is not responsible for replacement costs.
- The EPA does not require that homeowners replace their lead service line; however, financial assistance options will be made available by the EPA.
- Although the City of Bancroft samples from high-risk points throughout the City periodically, other options for water testing are available through state certified laboratories. Call the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791 or visit www.epa.gov/safewater/labs for these sampling options.
