Golf Course History:
A four town golf course for Bancroft, Swea City, Ledyard and Lakota was started at the Y north of Bancroft around 1925. It was named the North Kossuth Golf Club. Annual dues for members was $9.90. A news item requested that ladies please refrain from walking on the greens while wearing high heels. This course was abandoned around 1936.
The present North Kossuth Golf Club, Inc. was started in 1964. The Farmers Home Administration loaned $45,000 to buy the John Brink farm on the east edge of town. $16,500 was raised through the sale of shares of stock. Play was started on the nine hole course in June of 1964. A clubhouse was built and has been enlarged twice with a veranda added in 1979. Two other buildings are for golf cart space rental, lockers and equipment. More cart spaces were added in 1978.
