Golf Course History:

Around 1925, Bancroft, Swea City, Ledyard, and Lakota started a golf course at the Y north of Bancroft. It was named the North Kossuth Golf Club. Members paid $9.90 annually. A news item requested that ladies refrain from walking on the greens while wearing high heels. The course was abandoned around 1936.

The present North Kossuth Golf Club, Inc., opened in 1964. The Farmers Home Administration loaned $45,000 to buy the John Brink farm on the east edge of town, and $16,500 was raised through stock sale. Play was started on the nine-hole course in June 1964. A clubhouse was built, and a veranda was added in 1979. Two other buildings are for golf cart rental, lockers, and equipment. More cart spaces were added in 1978.
