*The outdoor restrooms attached to the Swimming Pool are connected to the building's water system. Due to this fact, when the Swimming Pool is winterized and water shut off, the outdoor restrooms will also be shut off and unavailable for public use.
History:
Construction of the swimming pool was delayed after the city election approving it was contested by three citizens who were opposed to it. The opponents challenged the votes of several people and the case ended up in court with a decision that there was nothing illegal in the election. It was finally settled in 1957 and actual construction got underway.
The pool is regulation size and there is a kiddie wading pool. A water heater was added and the original piping was replaced. In 1979 the parking area was blacktopped. The pool is usually open from Memorial Day until Labor Day. A picnic area and the city playground is located just west of the pool. Trees and shrubs were planted and a donation from the Gast Estate was used to purchase playground equipment. In 1979 the Lions Club erected a shelter house in the picnic area, that can now be rented free of charge.
