Established in 1881, the City of Bancroft is noted for the sport of baseball. The community has been the home of many high school state championship teams through the years. One major league all star, Denis Menke (who played during the 1960’s), and Major leaguer, Joe Hatten, played with Jackie Robinson, were born and raised in Bancroft. Bancroft Memorial Ballpark, which is an area landmark is the Home Field for North Union High School Baseball Team.
For the Summer of 2022, we welcome the North Iowa Ragin' Roosters collegiate baseball team! The Ragin' Roosters are part of the Expedition League, emulates the minor league baseball experience, and prepares the players for professional baseball. See their team website here.
The stadium has many amenities, including a main grand stand, bleachers (that comfortably seat 1,300 persons), a press box, and state of the art flood lights. Recent Tiling of the outfield has been completed as well as an irrigation system to the infield. Safety barriers for players have been added to the dugouts as well. A collaborative effort helped to raise funding for a new scoreboard. The City of Bancroft is proud of this heritage and keeps looking to the future with a well maintained facility.
